Los Cabos, Mexico

SAM_4555If you follow me on Instagram you know that my husband and I recently vacationed in Los Cabos, Mexico. The whole month leading up to our trip, I was giddy with excitement. Neither of us had been before, so we were looking forward to the sunny adventure. The food, scenery, and people were all above par! And given it’s less than a three hour flight from San Francisco, we’re already scheming a repeat trip with friends!

Out of the two of us, Chris is the more patient one (imagine that)–so he diligently did some research on Mexico and found us a great deal on Mr and Mrs Smith–an insider guide to Boutique hotel properties. I highly recommend checking it out! And, if you have some flexibility and are willing to travel on off days, you’re likely to find an even better deal. We debated between Cabo and Puerto Vallarta, but given Cabo’s proximity we chose the closer option. I was pleasantly surprised with the dessert-like vegetation, and fell captivated by all the cacti. The views were just breathtaking–each just as nice as the next.

The optimum benefit of vacation, beyond relaxation and no obligations, is that there’s space and time to reflect on and nurture the things that one would otherwise neglect. Haven’t you heard about people who vacation, to say Hawaii, and then realize their long lost dream is to teach a surf class? And then, within a month’s time, they quit their comfy job in corporate (likely at a mega brand like Google or Facebook) and move to a Hawaiian island to find true happiness? Well, don’t worry that didn’t happen to me–at least not yet. But I did come back feeling refreshed, content and happy.

Maybe you’re in a season where life is a bit hard, and you’re feeling tired. Perhaps what’s needed is a vacation! It’s time for a fresh perspective and a break from life’s demands, to reconnect with friends and family, or to explore a new destination (like Cabo!). Even God rested on the 7th day of creation. So, that probably means we all need rest too.

Finding rest doesn’t always require an extreme measure. Sometimes all it takes is a skinny margarita, vitamin D, and a good belly laugh with friends to get you back on track with this crazy thing we call life.
