Palm Springs

IMG_4929Palm Springs is such an interesting place. Essentially it’s a desert, a desert with lots of resorts where many celebrities retreat from the glitz and glam of Hollywood, including old-time stars like Frank Sinatra. We met our friends there for a ‘last summer hurrah’ and explored the town with lots of water in tow. Hydration is key in the 100+ degree weather–a stark contrast from the foggy, 60 degree San Francisco summer.

After seeing so many Instagram photos of the infamous Parker Hotel, I couldn’t resist a visit to understand all the hype. So, Sunday morning before leaving town, we went for brunch and got a tour of the swanky grounds. It felt much like a stroll through the set of Mad Men. Naturally, as any blogger would, I got a bit snap happy.

Join me for a virtual tour to peek inside the Parker and peruse the eclectic interior design of Jonathan Adler. Be forewarned, it may cause a serious case of wanderlust.

Entering the main lobby of the hotel, I immediately felt a jolt of excitement. There is so much to see, so much to look at. Jonathan Adler’s signature style is modern glam, and encourages “accessorizing with abandon.” So, it should come to no surprise that there is an abundance of decor. Every nook and cranny showcases a unique piece. Vibrant colors, metallic accents, velvet and leather chairs all–somehow–blend perfectly, transposing visitors to the ’70s. The wall art even includes an oversize canvas that says “drugs,” further solidifying the design’s nod to the hippie era.

Just beyond the lobby area guests enter the exclusive grounds, limited to hotel patrons. There is a path that leads you along the way, free of signage. Its organic design promotes exploration and the discovery of hidden lounge lawns, and the cutest lemonade stand–an experience in and of itself.

If you ever find yourself in the area, I definitely recommend staying at The Parker. The ambiance, food and long-legacy of celebrity sightings make it an entertaining experience. Keep in mind that wintertime is the optimal season to visit. During the peek summer months of June, July and August much of the town hibernates; it’s a bit of a “ghost town,” if you will, as you won’t see many people out and about due to the extreme heat.

But if you’re willing to brace the sizzling sun, you’ll discover fantastic deals at desirable locations like the elegant Ritz Carlton, and the hip Ace Hotel! Plus, there are plenty of indoor activities, like the spa, that make for a relaxing, weekend getaway.

I hope you enjoyed these snaps, and–if only for a moment–felt inspired by the tantalizing colors of the Parker. As always, thanks for following along! xo
