Seaside In A Sun Hat

SAM_3267On our second day in Carmel, the sun peered its way through the mountain fog and we were in business. I made my way to the pool, snuggled-up under an umbrella, and pulled out a bit of intellectual magic, Big Magic that is. I’ve been reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s latest book and I can’t seem to put it down. For anyone looking to pursue creative living, or just plain ole curious–this one is for you! After a few hours by the pool, sun-kissed, and rosy we made our way into Carmel-by-the-Sea.

SAM_3274SAM_3291 SAM_3309Carmel-by-the-Sea is a darling beach town. For a moment, it feels like you’ve been transposed to cobble stone streets in a far away city, somewhere in Europe; this ambiance and charm is what draws so many visitors from near and far. You can spend hours strolling the quaint streets, peering into gift shops, sipping on cafe, and merely enjoying the ocean breeze. People are on vacation here; and things are just a bit slower.

My favorite shop in town is the Soiled Doves Bath House. Anytime I’m in the neighborhood I’m sure to visit. I was so excited when the shop owner remembered me! She carries an array of exquisite french lotions and creams with luxurious scents. It’s a dreamy store, to say the least. If you ever find yourself in the area, please swing in for a visit–she’ll likely greet you with a smile and some joyous music. The history of the store is about returning to grace, and about becoming a lady. I just love that! Two themes I hope my blog embodies–ladylike grace. If you’re curious to hear more about this store, take a peek at her website here.

For an afternoon waking through the cobble stone streets of Carmel-by-the-Sea, I wore this white off-the-shoulder dress. Given that I was in vacation mode, I paired it with my beach-ready tote and this Joie sun hat. As you can probably tell from my prior post, I’m totally loving the shoulder bearing look. There’s something feminine and yet fun about it, which is the perfect vacation combination. After all, fun is a must on any holiday list!

What are some trends you’re looking forward to wearing this summer? Let me know in the comments below. xo
