Skincare That Works

img_5211When it comes to skincare there is an endless supply of options, making it overwhelming to decide which products to choose. And although we all, probably, wish there was a silver bullet to defy aging and dulling skin–there is no such thing. It’s all in the layers, and I’m not referring to fall fashion here. Today I’m rounding up some of my favorite skincare products that seriously work. Each one has a unique solution that targets a specific need. It might seem daunting at first, but once you establish your personalized, multi-step “layering” routine it’s like clockwork! You’ll see lasting results you’ll love.

First thing’s first: prepare your skin to absorb all those luxurious products. The Rodan + Fields redefine line offers a micro exfoliating roller that does just that. You may have initially thought I was promoting a mini, blue paint brush but it’s actually a powerful tool in the layering steps. The treatment helps boost collagen and the appearance of smoother skin, in addition to preparing your skin to better absorb serums and lotions. After applying the roller over my face, I love using the mini serum capsules that leave my skin silky smooth–it’s like a cooling treat after a facial workout.  Check out more of the Rodan + Fields products here, including the eye cream and lip serum.

I’ve shared my passion for this line on the blog before, but I couldn’t resist the opportunity to further praise its effects. The entire line is 100% natural, completely free of synthetic and chemical ingredients. And each, and every product smells divine. The Resurfacing Mask is one of my favorites, and helps correct the look of dulness, leaving you with a natural glow.

After realizing my old face wash was actually drying my skin, I switched over to the Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser. This cleanser combats buildup and impurities while maintaining the skin’s moisture. It also contains tumeric which is great for fighting toxins that cause breakouts. Tumeric is a powerful spice and has many skincare benefits–check out a few DIY tumeric remedies here!

Combined with an oxygen facial, this three-step treatment works wonders.  The rejuvenate line focuses on hydration and the opulence line targets brightening and evening the skin’s tone. I recommend starting with the rejuvenate treatment if your skin is feeling dry, and then transition to the opulence treatment once you’ve established a healthy base. In either case, it’s recommended to first apply the daily serum, followed by the hydrating gel and then seal with the binding cream. I know this sounds like a crazy amount of product, but all it takes is one pump from each. Once you get into a groove, you’ll find that it takes no time at all and you’ll love the results!

Last but not least, I recently dabbed with a few anti-aging products from the CosMedix line. And although I’m trying to age gracefully–let’s be honest–a little product helps! The Define treatment contains retinol which encourages skin renewal and the reduction of wrinkles; and because of  its powerful properties, it’s recommended to use sparingly about 2-3 times a week at night. Two other of my favorites from this line include the Eye Genius, which helps reduce the appearance of dark circles, and the Purify Detox Scrub which exfoliates the skin.

Phew! We made it through all the layers and skincare techniques. Now we’re ready to tackle the winter’s dry weather with glowing faces.img_5251
