The Softest Pajamas

IMG_4796I have a slight affinity for pajama sets. There is something cozy about hanging around the house in comfy, yet practical loungewear. I got this pink set during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale a few weeks back and have been living in them ever since. They are so soft, you just want to cuddle-up on the sofa with a good book and a cup of tea.

Are you reading any good books lately? A friend recommended The Power of The Other. I’m about three quarters the way through, but so far it has been really inspiring. The whole premise is about the effect other people can have on your life–both good and bad–and how we need others’ encouragement to reach new heights in our professions and personal lives. I always find these books interesting for career building and for personal motivation.

Good friends of ours have very active lifestyles, and exercise is a daily priority. Chris and I, on the other hand, have been lacking motivation in the workout department. Given our somewhat sedentary day jobs, behind computer screens, we’ve been trying to incorporate more exercise into our daily regimen. Thankfully, our friends have given us just the boost we needed. With a little encouragement and accountability we’ve been tracking our steps each day and making progress to our goal.

Although a simple story, it made me reflect on how it perfectly illustrates the book’s key message: develop relationships with people who support and energize you–people who help you soar.

Have you heard of the term “Big Hairy Audacious Goal” (BHAG)? I love this. It’s fun to dream, to think of the impossible. Isn’t it? My husband Chris is building a company–it’s his BHAG. His goal of scaling a startup business certainly comes with a slew of challenges, and is an endeavor that requires a lot of help from a variety of people. Without our community of friends, there would undoubtedly be days we would want to give up.

If you’re feeling less than zealous this morning about your workweek ahead, I leave you with these tidbits that I hope you’ll find encouraging. Just remember, we all need a buddy–a cheerleader in our corner to help us along the way.

Happy Monday! xo
