3 Tips For Healthy & Shiny Hair

I never paid much attention to hair care until recently when I started to notice my hair loose some of its natural shine and bounce. Thankfully my hair stylist Alex, from the Grasshopper salon, came to my rescue and taught me a few tricks to help protect my hair, and give it the proper care it needed. So today’s post is all about beauty and tips for locking in shine to a girl’s greatest asset–her hair!

A few tips I’ve learned about hair care:

  1. Hair brushes matter! I recently realized my brush was doing more harm than good. With each stroke,  I pulled brunette locks and my hair would frizz in an ovation of sorts. It had been years since I upgraded my brush–so it was time. I love the Olivia Garden line of hair brushes. The ion charged bristles are soft and help restore shine.
  2. Frequent cuts mean healthier locks. I get my hair trimmed every 4-6 weeks. It might sound crazy, and you may be thinking “you go to the hair salon that often?” What’s great about the Grasshopper salon is that they offer a “clean-up” trim in between each hair cut appointment. So I typically pop in after work and Alex trims the tips of my hair, removing all the icky dead ends. Frequent trims aid in keeping the ends from splitting, preserving the health of your hair from the tip to the scalp.
  3. Moisturizing masques work wonders. Product filled drawers in my bathroom can be overwhelming. I don’t have ample time to sort through them all, nor hardly remember what I even have sometimes. Therefore, I keep the product collection to a minimum. But investing in your hair is like investing in your skin–it can pay long-term dividends. So if you’re going to add one more product to your drawer, I’d recommend an oil treatment that restores shine and luster. Before my last hair cut, Alex wrapped my hair in a Kevin Murphy masque for a deep conditioning and restoring shine treatment. It felt like a hair lift!

Great news: most of the products mentioned in this post can be found on Amazon. But if online shopping is not your thing, you can locate a salon that sells Kevin Murphy products via their website. Below, I also link to a few of the other products I used during my last hair cut and blowout style. Happy styling! xo
