Office Facelift

This past weekend I tackled our back room, which has become more like a storage facility than an office. Things kept piling in corners to the point where we avoided using this room. Rather than sparking joy, this space created stress–more so for me than Chris, because you know how boys are…they don’t mind a little disorder here and there. So this weekend I finally got focused, and like a tornado, I gave our office a facelift.

I’m excited to show you the final product! The lighting in the room is quite poor, since there is no window but you get the idea 🙂

After getting married we combined a lot of our furniture, and this desk was one of Chris’ pieces; the color is a little dark for my liking, so in an effort to soften the look I swapped out the bronze knobs and added these feather imprint Anthropologie ones. I just love that store. They are opening up one near my house that will include their home line–so furniture, and artwork–I can’t wait! Some of my favorite pieces from the new fall line are here, and here.

Now, not only did I  make the desk facade orderly, creating a space suitable for work…I cleaned out the drawers. Yes, can you believe it? That’s the most dreadful part of designing a pretty space; but also so rewarding when you peek inside. Below you have the proof!

This desk has some great storage space, but I needed something to heighten the lamp for dimension. I picked up these white lacquered boxes from the container store, which are perfect for hiding little knickknacks. Otherwise, I worked with the pieces I already owned to avoid breaking the bank. Simple details can go a long way!

My friend recently gifted me the “Love Never Fails” artwork by Laura Casey. I love sprinkling pieces like this throughout the house as little reminders of what’s important. I tried to keep the wall art, and the desktop decor minimal since this is a small, somewhat dark room. But it was still important to include pieces that spark joy, and reflect my style. My planner, a few design and style books, a photo from our wedding, and a few other ‘must haves’ are the only items I included on my desk (and some fresh flowers, which are a given, right?!).

I hope ya’ll liked my office refresh project! Since organizing, I have already been using this space so much more–including now, as I write this post.
