The Chicago Blues

You may have seen on my Instagram account a few pictures from last weekend’s getaway trip to Chicago. Chris, my husband, had some work meetings scheduled for Monday so we decided to make a mini vacation out of it and to visit with some friends. I used to live in Chicago, and just absolutely love the city.

Since moving away, Chicago has maintained a special place in my heart and brings back fond memories of my time in the city. Chicago can sometimes scare people away for its chilly winters. And although I grew up in Florida, cold weather and snow–ironically–bring me great joy. Sometimes I wonder if it’s because I was, what felt like, deprived of seasons growing up under the hot, humid heat of the Floridian sun. The mere thought of leaves changing and snow falling excites me!

In any case, we had such a wonderful few days galavanting through the pristine streets, lounging at one of my favorite french cafes–Pierrot Gourment–and shopping on Michigan Avenue! Pierrot Gourmet is in the neighborhood of River North, and is a short walk away from my old studio apartment. It’s located on the street corner of the Peninsula hotel, so if you’re luck you’ll get a seat outside on a nice summer day.

Chris and I are known to spontaneously book a trip, so we rely heavily on Hotel Tonight. If you haven’t heard of it, you must check it out. It’s a great place to score last-minute hotel deals. Virgin America just opened up a hotel in downtown, where we snatched a wonderful deal. We just had the best time there. If you’re ever in the area take a peek at their rooftop terrace–it showcases great views of the city.

Here are a few pictures from our stay with outfit details below. There are so many great end of summer sales going on right now at J.Crew (30% off), Banana Republic (40% off) and Nordstroms just to name a few. Labor day weekend is always a great time to shop for fall fashion.

When walking in the city I prefer to feel comfortable and carry a light load. These flats are perfect for walking and this bag gives way for just the right amount of room. My phone, lipstick and credit card fit perfectly. A crossbody bag is the way to go when city-exploring and this Micahel Kors purse was the perfect choice.

Feeling a little blue for Chicago today!
